On June 4, the China Daily and Siberian Times reported that the top plate of bridge was connected on May 31 between Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province located in northeast China and Blagoveshchensk, Amur Oblast situated in the Far East of Russia. This bridge is meaningful, celebrating 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia despite a mere one kilometer gap between the two nations. The Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, Aleksandr Kozlov stated that this is a long-awaited historic moment. This bridge is set to open in April 2020.

Russia also has great expectations. Governor of Amur Oblast, Vasily Orlov anticipates that this new transport route will boost the export potential of Amur Oblast, stating that 40 percent of beans produced in the region were exported to China last year. Chief of Strategic Assessment Center, Dmitry Abzalov forecasted that the construction of the bridge would enhance cooperation with China and galvanize the Russian Far East.
