NEAR Secretariat Staffs Visited the ‘Maritime Silk Road Symposium 2014’2014-12-18

‘Maritime Silk Road Symposium’ hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, South Korea, a member region of NEAR and supervised by Gyeongbuk Ilbo was held on December 16 at the Hyundai Hotel, Gyeongju, themed ‘Eurasia Initiative through New Silk Road,’ The symposium was arranged to shed new light on the value of Korean Silk Road through ‘the Maritime Silk Road Global Expedition 2014’ and to discuss policies to realize Eurasia new Silk Road era. . At the opening ceremony, Dr. Kim Woong-seo, senior researcher of Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology and head of the Maritime Silk Road Global Expedition 2014 reported on the expedition activities and professor Yoon Myung-chul, president of Eurasia Silk Road Research Institute of Dongkook University and head of Overland Silk Road Expedition last year delivered a keynote speech under the theme of ‘the Meaning of Eurasia Silk Road to us’. The symposium was a chance to review the achievements and challenges of ‘Korean Silk Road Project’ carried out by Gyoengsangbuk-do Province, to propose a vision how regional governments are able to apply Eurasia Initiative policies of the government and support it, and discuss policies for it. NEAR Secretariat staffs, including Secretary General Kim participated in the symposium and had a chance to shed new light on the role of NEAR in the ‘Eurasia era’.
