On March 5th (Sat.), NEAR foreign staff members from China, Japan, Mongolia, and Russia visited Cheongdo Wine Tunnel (in Goryeong-gun) and Daegaya Museum (in Cheongdo-gun) in Gyeonsangbuk-do Province. The foreign staff members first went to Daegaya Museum and took a look at the legacy of the Gaya Confederacy (AD 42–532). Then, they walked around the Jisandong Tumuli where 704 mounded tombs from around 4-6 century have been discovered. After that, the staff members visited Cheongdo-gun, which is well known for ‘Persimmon Wine Tunnel’ and the persimmon-related business that raised the town, or gun, prosperity and employment rate. The tunnel was transformed from an old, unused one into a wine cellar that stores persimmon wine and even into a market that sells related products. Many visitors come for wine tasting and have chances to see various artworks exhibited at the tunnel. * NEAR Secretariat has been sometimes providing cultural and industrial tours to foreign staff members for betterment of their understanding in Korean culture and for their adjustment to Korean life.
