4 dispatched staff members from China, Japan, Mongolia, and Russia of NEAR seretariat visited Cheongsong Ice-climbing World Cup 2016. Cheongsong Ice-climbing World Cup 2016 has been the only ice-climbing competition in Asia. It is hosted by Union Internationale des Associations d’Alpinsme (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation), Korean Alpine Federation and Gyeongsangbuk-do, and co-organized by Cheongsong-gun and Gyeongsangbuk-do Alpine Federation. Beginning with the Opening Ceremony on January 15, over 100 participants including world’s top ice-climbers from 18 countries competed at the two day long competition from January 16 to 17. Since it was decided to have the demonstration of ice-climbing during Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, more people both domestically and abroad have shown interest in it. Cheongsong will be the host the game again from 2016 to 2020. It is expecting to promote the region as one of the world’s famous places for winter ice sports.
