Kim Ok-chae, who served as the 5th NEAR Secretary-General and is currently the consul-general of South Korea in Yokohama, received the 2024 Youngsan Diplomatic Award. This award, presented annually by the Seoul Forum for International Affairs (SFIA), recognizes diplomats and private individuals who have contributed to national interests and enhanced the country’s image on the frontlines of diplomacy.
Being appointed the Korean consul-general in Yokohama in December 2022, Kim was selected as a co-recipient alongside the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines. He was highly recognized for his efforts to improve Korea-Japan relations and support the Korean residents in Japan. In the private sector, pianist Cho Seong-jin was chosen as an awardee.
The Youngsan Diplomatic Award, established in 2008 by the SFIA (chaired by Ryu Jin), is given to diplomats and private individuals who have worked to enhance national interests and improve the country’s image. It is considered one of the most prestigious awards for diplomats.
