On July 26, NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin attended the 2024 NEAR Subcommittee on Energy Cooperation and delivered congratulatory remarks, which was jointly held by NEAR and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

In his congratulatory remarks, Mr. Lim stated that “Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is the storage of the world’s mineral resources as well as a rich repository of clean energy resources that utilizes wind power and solar energy.” He added, “In today’s world, where cooperation at the private-level has become more necessary than ever, the region’s contribution to energy cooperation in Northeast Asia through the coordination of the NEAR Subcommittee on Energy Cooperation is particularly meaningful, as it leverages its unique strengths.”

The subcommittee was held in the order of opening ceremony, signboard ceremony, topic presentation, and company introductions. More than 130 people participated, including energy experts and business leaders from NEAR member-regions.
Other dignitaries also gave congratulatory remarks during the opening ceremony, including Vice-Chairman Yang Jin of the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Director Yu Haiyu of the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Director Bang Hui of the Inner Mongolia Foreign Affairs Office served as the host of the event.

At the afternoon session, topic presentations was given by the Team Leader Yoon Byung-yong at the Energy Policy Department of the Industry Bureau of Gangwon State, Professor Alexander Park at the Engineering College in Tomsk Region, and First-Secretary Brian Wachira Chomba at the Kenya Embassy to China, and Second-Secretary Lucia Rodriguez of Uruguay Embassy to China. Additionally, Chinese enterprises, including Lungi and Envision, introduced their major products and business strategies.
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region submitted the application form for the establishment of the NEAR Subcommittee on Energy Cooperation last year, aiming to promote inter-regional energy cooperation in Northeast Asia by leveraging its rich energy resource infrastructure. The region’s application was officially approved at the NEAR General Assembly in Ulsan in October last year.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lim participated in the interviews by Inner Mongolia Daily News and Inner Mongolia Broadcast to share his feelings about attending the subcommittee and visiting Inner Mongolia.
