The NEAR Secretariat has completed the selection of the participants for the 2024 NEAR Young Leaders Forum, which will be jointly hosted by Handong Global University this upcoming August, following the application period from June 12 to July 5. A couple of factors were taken into account for the selection process, to ensure a balanced distribution of the participants’ home-regions and universities. (notified individually)
The forum received high interest from youths, with a total of 75 applicants from 8 countries: China (27); Japan (5); South Korea (12); Mongolia (11); Russia (9); Vietnam (9); Uzbekistan (1); and Poland (1). Based on their personal information submitted, 40 participants from 7 countries have been selected.
If broken down by nationality, there are 13 participants from China, 4 from Japan, 7 from South Korea, 6 from Mongolia, 5 from Russia, 4 from Vietnam, and 1 from Uzbekistan. By the universities they are attending, there are 2 participants from Seoul National University, 4 from Yonsei University, 2 from Korea University, 1 from Chung-ang University, 3 from Hanyang University, 1 from Sungkyunkwan University, 1 from Seogang University, 1 from Kookmin University, 3 from Ewha Women’s University, 2 from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, 1 from Handong Global University, 1 from Dankuk Univeristy, 1 from Gacheon University, 2 from Pusan University, 1 from Yeungnam University, 2 from Sunmoon University, 2 from Seoul National University of Science and Technology, 1 from Woosong University, 1 from Georgia Institute of Technology, 1 from Qingdao University, 1 from Shandong University, 1 from Communication University of China, 1 from International Christian University, and 1 from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
The selected participants will stay in Handong Global University from August 5 to 11 for the forum themed “Standing Together, Thriving Northeast Asia,” listening to expert lectures on “the roles of youth for a prosperous Northeast Asia,” and “sharing ideas on the main concerns of youth and possible solutions.” They will also have team discussions and share ideas on various issues. Additionally, cultural exchange programs are prepared, including on-site tours in Pohang & Gyeongju, Korean culture experiences, and Cultural Night.
The forum is expected to provide the participating young adults, the future leaders, with an opportunity to seek ways to promote co-prosperity of Northeast Asia with creative approaches, and to enhance mutual understanding on each other through this platform of cooperation.
