On February 27, Governor NITTA Hachiro of Toyama Prefecture expressed gratitude to Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin for sending a letter of condolence and wishing him a speedy recovery following the January earthquake on the Noto Peninsula.

Governor Nitta highlighted that Toyama Prefecture experienced an earthquake exceeding magnitude 5, resulting in numerous injuries, damage to 19,000 homes, and disruption of public infrastructure such as water supply and roads. These challenges significantly impacted the lives of the prefecture's residents. However, Governor Nitta emphasized that the residents are now united and dedicated to the recovery process.

He expressed hope that NEAR member regions, including the Secretariat, would consider visiting Toyama Prefecture to extend support for the recovery efforts and to experience Toyama's rich culture, history, and cuisine.

Governor Nitta also expressed his desire for the collaboration and exchange between Toyama Prefecture and NEAR to be further strengthened and expanded.
