History
- Yamaguchi Prefecture, in its current form, was established on November 15, 1871 (1871, Meiji 4) following the abolition of feudal domains in July of that year. It was formed by merging the former Yamaguchi domain with the four provinces of Toyo, Kishu, Iwakuni, and Suo, thus encompassing the previous territories of Nagato and Suo. At that time, the former Yamaguchi domain office was retained and designated as the new prefectural office, and the name Yamaguchi Prefecture was inherited.
* The abolition of feudal prefectures was an the administrative reform on August 28, 1871 during the Meiji Restoration, when the previous feudal domains were abolished and replaced by centralized prefectural administration under the control of the central government.
