On Sunday, February 1, 2026, Okinawa Prefecture will host the "Bankoku Shinryo Forum" (meaning a bridge connecting the world), inviting private experts from China, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.

The forum will be held under the theme of "Regional Diplomacy Aimed at Easing Tensions and Building Trust: How to Realize Peace in East Asia." Participants will discuss measures to alleviate tensions in the East Asian region and the specific roles that local governments can play through regional diplomacy.

Amidst an increasingly challenging security environment surrounding Okinawa, the prefecture has been actively promoting "Regional Diplomacy" based on cooperation with overseas local governments. Its goal is to establish Okinawa as a platform for peaceful diplomacy and dialogue in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the request of Okinawa Prefecture, Lim Byung-Jin, Secretary General of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR), will deliver a congratulatory message via video, emphasizing the importance of regional diplomacy and the necessity of peace and cooperation in East Asia.
