The Secretariat of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) has actively engaged in support activities regarding the “3rd NEAR Traditional Medicine Subcommittee” (June 18–19, Ulan-Ude) hosted by the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, by sending invitations to member governments, encouraging participation, and arranging speakers. As a result, approximately 70 participants have completed registration, including government officials involved in traditional medicine from 32 member governments from 6 countries including China, Korea, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Myanmar as well as 7 hospital directors and representatives from companies concerning traditional Chinese medicine from China and Mongolia.
The Republic of Buryatia holds this Traditional Medicine Subcommittee to foster traditional Oriental medicine as one of the region’s key brands during its term as chair government. The subcommittee will be held concurrently with the “15th NEAR High-Level Working Committee.”

According to the main schedule, participants will visit the Oriental Medicine Center, the National Museum of Buryatia, and the Center for Buddhist Studies in Buryatia in the morning on June 18. In the afternoon, the program will include the opening ceremony — featuring welcoming remarks by Head of Buryatia Tsydenov, an opening speech by NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin, and congratulatory remarks by Samoylova, Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare — followed by a presentation on Buryatia’s traditional medicine by Deputy Prime Minister Ludupova and discussions on cooperation measures among traditional medicine experts during the subcommittee meeting.
In addition, several MOUs on cooperation are scheduled to be signed during the event, including agreements between Ulan-Ude and Ankang City, between the Oriental Medicine Center and the Ankang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and between the Baikal Harbor Special Economic Zone Logistics Center and Shaanxi Meizhibang Pharmaceutical Logistics Co., Ltd. These agreements are expected to produce tangible outcomes in international cooperation in the fields of traditional medicine and medicine·logistics.
Buryatia’s traditional medicine has its scientific ground with the region’s own herbal production system that has been developed from Tibetan medical prescriptions, and the region is widely recognized as a center of traditional medicine within Russia. In particular, the Republic of Buryatia established the Oriental Medicine Center in 1989, the only national medical institution in Russia that provides integrated treatment combining modern and traditional medicine.
