The Secretariat of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) carried out various support activities for the “1st NEAR Subcommittee on Digital Economy” (June 8–9, Shenyang) hosted by the Liaoning Provincial Government of China including sending invitations to member governments, encouraging participation, coordinating speakers. As a result, a total of 58 participants have completed registration, including representatives from 18 member governments in five countries — China, South Korea, Mongolia, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan — as well as three relevant institutions, including the Korean Embassy in China and the Beijing Office of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), along with two companies.

The Digital Economy Subcommittee was newly established by Liaoning Province during the “14th General Assembly” held in Ulsan in 2023, and will be held for the first time. Key officials leading digital economy policies in member governments are expected to attend, including the Vice Governor of Liaoning Province, officials from China’s National Data Administration, one governor-level official, one vice governor-level official, and seven director-general-level officials. They are expected to engage in in-depth discussions on digital transformation and new industry cooperation in Northeast Asia.

The main schedule for the “2026 NEAR Digital Economy Subcommittee” includes:

▲ June 8: Courtesy meeting with the Vice Governor of Liaoning Province and an official welcome banquet;
▲ June 9: Opening ceremony and main subcommittee events (opening session, keynote presentations, seminars, etc.), as well as visits to major digital industry sites in Shenyang. It’s a compact and intensive two-day program.

In addition, during the subcommittee seminar, the head of the Beijing Office of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), Gangwon State, NEEDS Co., Ltd. based in Daegu, G&G COMMERCE based in Seoul, LTD(Domeggook), Russia’s Primorsky Territory, China’s Neusoft, Liaoning HongtuChuangzhan Co., Ltd.(图创展) and Shinhwashin(信) will deliver presentations.

This subcommittee meeting is expected to serve as a practical platform for industrial exchange in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart manufacturing, and e-commerce amid rapidly changing global digital trends. Going forward, Liaoning Province, as the coordinator government, is expected to continue playing a central role in promoting digital economy cooperation and new industry exchanges among regional governments in Northeast Asia.
