History
- Tianjin, which means “gateway to heaven,” was named during the Ming Dynasty under the reign of Emperor Wing Loh.
 - During the Sui Dyansty, after the completion of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Tianjin port became an important transportation hub for various goods, including food, to the southern regions.
 - It was once the capital of Hubei Province, but is now under the direct administration of the central government.
