The NEAR Working-level Workshop was held on May 20-22 at the Gyeongju Hyundai Hotel and attended by more than 100 working-level officials from 36 regional governments of five countries, including South Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia, and Russia.
The 10th Working-level Workshop was held this year and it has been held since 2006 as a place for working-level officials in charge of NEAR affairs to enhance the understanding on NEAR and its activities and establish the human network among member regions.
The Working-level Workshop included NEAR Secretariat’s report on its achievements, a special lecture by Professor Son Key-young of Korea University, and introduction of main events by member regions, along with discussion on NEAR ‘s current affairs.
Finally, participants visited the POSCO (the Pohang Iron and Steel Company), the top steelmaker worldwide, Bulguksa Temple, and Seokguram Grotto, Korean representative cultural heritage and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
NEAR Secretary General Jun expressed his appreciation for the member regions’ support of hosting the successful event saying that “it was a great opportunity to discover a way to develop NEAR while enhancing the understanding on NEAR and have active participation and interest in NEAR.”
