On July 8, the NEAR Secretariat participated in the 18th International Organizations Career Fair, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Daegu Metropolitan Government, held at EXCO in Daegu. The event aimed to promote NEAR as an international organization based in Korea.
During the event, the NEAR Secretariat highlighted its major achievements over the past three years, including the expansion of its membership to 91 local governments from nine countries in Northeast and Central Asia, which broadened its international cooperation network; The Secretariat also emphasized the revitalization of NEAR as a cooperation platform, marked by increased participation from local governments in key NEAR events.
Additionally, NEAR's international visibility and influence have been a significantly enhanced through a notable rise in high-level meetings between the NEAR Secretary-General and member governments. The Secretariat also actively promoted NEAR’s major programs and initiatives, attracting considerable interest from the participants.
Meanwhile, this year marked the first time the Career Fair was held in Daegu. Major international organizations—including the United Nations Secretariat, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Criminal Court (ICC), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), participated in the event. These organizations introduced strategies for entering international organizations, while also offering on-site consultations and mock interviews.
