On June 11, NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin met with Alexey Tsydenov, Head of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, who was attending the 15th NEAR General Assembly in Liaoning Province, China. The two exchanged views on the responsibilities of the NEAR chair government, among other matters.
Secretary-General Lim began by expressing his gratitude to Mr. Tsydenov for participating in the General Assembly and congratulated Buryatia on assuming the role of the 16th NEAR Chair Government. He also extended his appreciation for the active involvement of high-level officials from Buryatia in all NEAR events over the past two years, including the General Assembly, the Senior Officials Committee, member government workshops, and the Traditional Medicine Subcommittee.
He explained that the NEAR Chair Government is responsible for organizing two key events: the Senior Officials Committee and the General Assembly. He also noted concerns regarding air travel arrangements for these meetings and requested special support measures to address this issue.

In response, Mr. Tsydenov expressed his appreciation for the invitation to the event and stated that, as Chair of Government, Buryatia has identified key priorities for the next two years, including tourism development, Traditional medicine, and improvements in population policy. He emphasized that Buryatia, in its role as Chair, will work to ensure NEAR’s continued development and strengthen international cooperation.
The Republic of Buryatia was officially approved as the 16th NEAR Chair Government on June 12 as part of the General Assembly agenda.
