On February 6, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin paid a visit to HATOYAMA Yukio, former Prime Minister of Japan, at Mr. Hatoyama's office in Tokyo.

During the meeting, Mr. Lim introduced NEAR as the largest multilateral exchange platform for Northeast Asian regional governments, shared status of Japanese NEAR members, and outlined the event plans for this year. He also requested Mr. Hatoyama’s support and interest in encouraging Japanese NEAR member governments to actively participate in NEAR activities. Furthermore, Mr. Lim requested that Mr. Hatoyama deliver a video message for the 15th NEAR General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Liaoning Province, China, in June.

In response, Mr. Hatoyama expressed strong agreement with NEAR's founding spirit, praised its recent activities, and graciously accepted the request to deliver a video message for the General Assembly. He also conveyed his intention to take an interest in and support NEAR's activities in the future.

Currently, Mr. Hatoyama is serving as the Chairman of the East Asian Community Institute and is actively engaged in various activities aimed at realizing the vision of "East Asia Community" and creating platforms for exchange and cooperation.
