On February 4, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin had a luncheon meeting with CHOI Dosoung, President of Handong Global University (HGU), and exchanged ideas on the hosting of the 2025 NEAR Young Leaders Forum which is scheduled to take place in August 2025.
Mr. Lim briefly outlined the plan for the 2025 NEAR Young Leaders Forum, which will invite 50 participants for five days and be run in Korean as the official language, and conveyed his hopes that HGU, a highly globalized university in pursuit of glocalism, joins the NEAR Secretariat in co-hosting the forum. They also discussed the necessary areas of cooperation from HGU.
In response, Mr. Choi stated that “The NEAR Young Leaders Forum is not only beneficial for enhancing HGU’s globalization level but also serves as a valuable event that fosters the mutual understanding and friendly cooperation among the youth of Northeast Asia, the main players of our future.” And he gladly agreed on co-hosting the forum.

The 2025 NEAR Young Leaders Forum is scheduled to take place from August 4 to 8 at HGU in Pohang under the theme "The Role of Youth in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." The event will feature a variety of programs, including expert lectures, group discussions, and NEAR Model General Assembly, targeting young people from NEAR member regions who are studying or residing in Korea.
Along with Mr. Choi, the meeting was joined by Park Hye-kyung, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Bang Cheong-rok, Vice President for Globalization from HGU side.
