On February 14, Secretary-General LIM Byung-jin met with ZHAO Hongbin, Deputy Director-General of the Liaoning Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, who visited the NEAR Secretariat. They discussed matters regarding the hosting of the 15th NEAR General Assembly, scheduled to take place from June 11 to 13 this year.
Mr. Zhao expressed his gratitude to Mr. Lim and the NEAR Secretariat for their dedicated efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the General Assembly. Emphasizing that the 15th NEAR General Assembly is the largest and most significant NEAR event of the year, Mr. Lim stressed the importance of close cooperation between the Secretariat and Liaoning Province, the Chair Government, to ensure thorough preparations and make the event a success.
Both sides discussed the General Assembly’s overall schedule and each session in detail, reaching a consensus on most matters. For a few remaining issues, they agreed to continue discussions at a later date.
The 15th NEAR General Assembly will be held from June 11 to 13, 2025, in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. As NEAR’s largest event, the General Assembly will bring together governor-level representatives from member governments to elect the next Chair Government, approve joining of new members, discuss common challenges faced by regional governments, promote policies of member governments, and adopt a Joint Declaration.
