NEAR Secretariat Appoints Kim Seo Hyun and Kim Eunjung Ashley as New Experts on Japanese and English, Respectively2022-01-03

On January 3, 2022, Secretary-General Kim Ok-chae presented letters of appointment to Kim Seo Hyun, the new expert on Japanese and Kim Eunjung Ashley, the new expert on English.



After obtaining her master’s degree and completing a doctoral program at Kyushu University, Kim Seo Hyun, the new expert on Japanese taught Japanese at Korean universities and corporations.  Ms. Kim will promote cooperative projects with Japanese member regional governments, conduct regional studies, and take charge of Japanese interpretation and translation, as the expert on Japanese in the Department of International Cooperation of the NEAR Secretariat.  



In addition, Kim Eunjung Ashley, the new expert on English, majored in Political Science (International Relations) at Boston University and furthered her studies in international and US law at Handong International Law School.  She built up her experience in international cooperation over six years, working for government agencies and international organizations, including the Korean Ministry of Justice and the United Nations.  Ms. Kim will be in charge of promoting cooperation with international organizations and associate members, organizing and coordinating NEAR’s Young Leader’s Forum.  She will also take charge of translation and interpretation for English-speaking countries, as the expert on English in the Department of Planning and Public Relations of the NEAR Secretariat.  New experts Kim Seo Hyun and Kim Eunjung Ashley are expected to contribute to the operation of the NEAR Secretariat based on their ample work experience as professionals in their respective areas of expertise.
