NEAR Secretariat Holds Discussions with the ICLEI over Cooperation on April 82022-04-11

On April 8, two officers from the NEAR Secretariat: Cho Sun Hwa, Expert on China, and Yi Kun, a government official seconded from China, held an online meeting for cooperation with Lie Ge, Strategy Manager and Tang Youde, Program Manager in the Beijing Office from the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat.


The NEAR Secretariat introduced its current international exchange programs and activities involving Chinese NEAR members, including the Subcommittee on Energy and Climate Change for which Shanxi Province is currently serving as coordinator, as well as possible mutual exchange with the ICLEI. In addition, Ms. Yi explained the current state of Weihei city of Shandong Province from which she had been seconded and sought cooperation with the ICLEI in its current NEAR project.  

The ICLEI is a global network over 2,500 local governments of 125 different countries which are committed to sustainable development. In order to attain sustainable development, the ICLEI emphasizes the roles and practices of local governments.


The ICLEI is headquartered in Bonn, Germany; and the East Asia Secretariat is located in Seoul, Korea. In addition, the ICLEI signed a MOU with the NEAR Secretariat in 2016.
