On Wednesday, September 17, NEAR Secretariat visited Gyeongju Commercial High School to deliver a special lecture titled “Understanding Russian and Mongolian Culture” as part of its global citizenship education program for youth in Gyeongsangbuk-do youth.
The lecture was featured by NEAR’s Russia Specialist and Mongolia Officer, who engaged directly with students and introduced vivid aspects of local culture. Their presentations covered a wide range of topics, including regional characteristics and traditions of Russia and Mongolia, cultural differences between the two countries and Korea, and unique aspects of local lifestyles. An interactive Q&A session followed, during which students saw actively participation and gained valuable insights to broaden their global perspectives.

The NEAR Secretariat explained that the lecture was developed as a customized educational program aimed at enhancing students’ intercultural understanding and communication skills in an increasingly globalized world. “We hope this program will help students deepen their understanding of Russian and Mongolian culture and society while cultivating insights that can be applied on the international stage,” the Secretariat stated.

As part of its 2025 International Understanding Education Program, the NEAR Secretariat has delivered lectures at four high schools in Gyeongsangbuk-do (Gumi Gyeongbuk Foreign Language High School, Andong Pungsan High School, Yeongju Future Industry High School, and Gyeongju Commercial High School) recommended by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education. The program introduces the cultures of major Northeast Asian countries including China, Japan, Mongolia, and Russia.
Earlier this year, the Secretariat held lectures at Gumi Gyeongbuk Foreign Language High School and Andong Pungsan High School, followed by the “China Session” at Yeongju Future Industry High School in August. With the completion of “Russia & Mongolia Session” at Gyeongju Information High School, the Secretariat has successfully concluded its 2025 International Understanding Education Program.
