On September 19, Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin attended the welcoming ceremony of the 2024 Pohang International Youth Camp and delivered a congratulatory speech, which was hosted by Pohang City, a special member of NEAR.
In his speech, Mr. Lim stated, “Korea, China, and Japan have been close neighbors for a long time, exchanging ideas and cultures. It is also true, however, that the three countries are facing challenges such as the ongoing conflicts and mutual distrust.” He added that, in order to address these challenges, continuous efforts are needed—not only through cooperation between central governments but also through local exchanges in various areas including economy and culture. He also expressed his hope that the camp will be a valuable opportunity for the young generations of the three countries to enhance mutual understanding by sharing their unique experiences and cultures.

Jointly hosted by Pohang City and the Governors Association of the Republic of Korea, the Pohang International Youth Camp was held for the first time this year, with the aims to provide the youth in Pohang with an opportunity to interact with the young people from its sister-cities of China and Japan, and to foster global mindset among the young generations.

Running from September 19 to 22 with 30 participants, the camp will feature a variety of exchange activities, such as visiting tour sites in Pohang, ocean sports experience, Korean culture experience, and attending the “Youth Day” event.
