NEAR Secretary General visited the Chahar Institute in Beijing, China and met with Mr. Zhang Jianguo (张建国), chief secretary of the Chahar Institute. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on NEAR's major activities and explored potential avenues for future cooperation.
▲Secretary General Lim introduced NEAR as the largest multilateral platform for interregional government cooperation in Northeast Asia. He explained the organization's founding background, organizational structure, and the active role played by its Chinese member governments.
▲He also noted that, through NEAR's recently launched "NEAR+" initiative, the organization's network has expanded beyond Northeast Asia to include Central Asia and Southeast Asia, further revitalizing its exchange platform. Secretary General Lim invited the Chahar Institute to participate in the 2026 NEAR International Forum, which will commemorate NEAR's 30th anniversary and is scheduled to be held in November. In addition, he proposed organizing a Peace and Development Forum in the form of a Think Tank Subcommittee, in cooperation with NEAR member governments and the Chahar Institute.
In response, chief secretary Zhang Jianguo highly praised NEAR's contributions to promoting cooperation among regional governments in Northeast Asia. He introduced the Chahar Institute and expressed his hope that the two organizations would engage in diverse forms of exchange in the future. He also confirmed that the Chahar Institute would actively participate in the NEAR International Forum scheduled for November.
