In the Kyoto Prefecture gubernatorial election held on Sunday, April 5, Governor Takatoshi Nishiwaki (70) achieved a third term.
During this election, Governor Nishiwaki emphasized the achievements of his second four-year term (totaling eight years), highlighting results in strengthening support for child-rearing households, disaster response, and measures against rising prices. He also underscored the enhancement of industrial competitiveness by leveraging Kyoto's strengths in animation and manga content, as well as advanced manufacturing technologies. Furthermore, he appealed to voters with his vision for realizing a more attractive and “Exciting Kyoto.”
Immediately after his victory, Governor Nishiwaki stated, “I will create a warm Kyoto and build a future-oriented prefecture where everyone—from children and the working generation to the elderly—can play an active role.”
Meanwhile, Kyoto Prefecture has been a founding member of the North East Asia Regional Government Association (NEAR) since its establishment in 1996.
The NEAR Secretariat plans to send a congratulatory letter on the election victory in the name of Lim Byung-jin, the Secretary-General of NEAR.
