On July 26, NEAR Secretary-General Lim Byung-jin met with Yang Jin, vice-chairman of Inner Mongolia, during his stay in Ordos city of Inner Mongolia to attend 2024 NEAR Subcommittee on Energy Cooperation Conference.
Mr. Lim provided an overview of NEAR’s recent activities, projects planned for this year, and current status of Chinese member-regions and highly appreciated Inner Mongolia’s active participation in various NEAR activities. Emphasizing the crucial role that Inner Mongolia has played as the coordinator of the Subcommittee on Energy Cooperation to strengthen exchange and cooperation in energy sector in Northeast Asia, he showed his firm commitment to continue his full support for the Subcommittee in the coming years too.

Warmly welcoming Mr. Lim, Mr. Yang provided general information on Inner Mongolia as the region with rich natural resources, as the large producer of food, oil, meat, milk, and electricity, and as the region with rich culture of grassland nomad. Also, he stressed that Inner Mongolia is promoting high-quality development by converging China’s national policies, including Northeast Area Revitalization Plan and Opening to the North, based on the region’s energy and industrial superiority. Mr. Yang said that he takes the relationship with NEAR seriously and expressed his hopes for creating practical results through the cooperation with NEAR in the future.

The meeting was joined by dignitaries including Hao Ming Seng, deputy-secretary of the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; Fang Hui, director of the Foreign Affairs of Inner Mongolia; Hu Cheng Dung, vice-director of Energy Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; and Lyu Peong wen, deputy mayor of commerce of Ordos city. From the NEAR Secretariat side, four officials attended including Mr. Yoon Seong-uk, director of Planning and Public Relations Department, and Ms. Choi Ju-hwa, director of the International Cooperation Department.
