Orkhon Aimag is located in the Selenge and Orkhon river basins, which are Mongolia’s longest rivers. Connected to China and Russia by railways, Orkhon Aimag, once the second-largest city in Mongolia, is now classified as an aimag for administrative purposes.

Orkhon Aimag is famous for its “Erdenet” copper mine, one of the world’s top five copper mines, and also known for tis carpet production.
