13th Subcommittee on Environment held in Toyama2017-10-17

13th Subcommittee on Environment, held on October 12 in Toyama, Toyama Prefecture.
In this meeting, about 30 members from 9 member regional governments from 5 countries: Korea, China, Japan, Russia, and Mongolia participated and gave presentations on meeting outcomes and projects. Furthermore, various agendas on selecting the next coordinator, suggestions on projects for 2018, and future activity plans of the subcommittee were discussed among NEAR member representatives. Toyama prefecture, a founding member of NEAR, has met every year since 1999 as a coordinator of the Subcommittee on Environment. Held biannually since 2005, this year’s meeting marked its 13th time.
NEAR Under-Secretary-General Park Changsoo, who attended the Subcommittee on Environment said, "The NEAR Secretariat will make efforts to improve the capacity to preserve the environment and solve environmental problems in the region of Northeast Asia."
After the subcommittee meeting, Under-Secretary-General Park visited the Prefectural office of Toyama and held a meeting with Mr. Yamamoto Osam, Director of General Policy Bureau. Director Yamamoto delivered a message of appreciation for participating in the 13th Subcommittee on Environment after the Environment Forum in 2016 and said that the prefecture will make efforts for mutual development, maintaining the positive relationship between NEAR and Toyama Prefecture.
