NEAR Secretariat staff attended the 20thPohang Traditional Culture Festival for 'Dano', one of the 4 major traditional holidays in Korea which takes place on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar Korean calendar (June 8th). On the 8th of June, a group of NEAR secretariat foreign staff headed by Secretary-General Jun watched the opening ceremony, special performances and traditional games of the local residents, such as Wolwolicheongcheong (known as ‘play singing dance’), Yutnori (traditional board game), Tuho (pitchpot), and Geunae (swing). Foreign staff who attended the festival stated that experiencing Nongak (traditional farmer’s music) and Korean traditional games such as Yutnori played was very impressive. Secretary-General Jun stated that as foreign staff spent a meaningful time experiencing traditional Korean culture through participating in traditional Korean customs through Dano, NEAR Secretariat will continuously provide opportunities at NEAR to experience one another's cultures.
