NEAR Secretary General Kim Ok-chae Visits the Japanese Consulate General in Busan2019-07-05

Secretary General Kim Ok-chae visited the Japanese Consulate General in Busan to give an inaugural address and met with Consul General Hisashi Michigami which was followed by a luncheon on Thursday, July 4. Secretary General Kim spoke of the initiatives of the Japanese regional governments including Shimane Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, and Hyogo Prefecture during the establishment of NEAR. He also requested the active participation of existing Japanese regional governments as well as support for the sake of new membership.

 

Consul General Michigami commented on the passive stance of Japanese regional governments with regard to exchange between regional governments of Japan and Korea. Furthermore, he stated that regardless of the political and diplomatic conflicts between the two central governments, he promised active cooperation, in agreement with the founding spirit of NEAR, for the sake of enhancing mutual exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
